Keynote Address: Onward: Connecting in 2022
January is a time of optimism, resolutions and resets.  After the disruption and disconnection of 2020-2021, January 2022 is an opportunity to elevate our energy by shifting the way we relate with one another.
We spend more than 50% of our waking hours at work and likely spend more time with colleagues than our friends and family. 2020/21 has reminded us that these workplace relationships matter and have a direct impact on our wellbeing. When we’re in connection with others we feel happier, energized and are 7 times more engaged in our work. Simply put, connection fosters our health and resilience.
Cally Ritter will invite us to explore how we cultivate our connections. Together we’ll consider which are the relationships that sustain us and who are the people that support, energize and inspire us. Like food in our diet, we need a variety of relationships for our wellbeing. Cally will ask us to identify who are our sustainers, entertainers and maintainers and she’ll encourage us to choose in which relationships to invest in 2022. By setting intentions for cultivating connections, together we’ll generate growth of our personal wellbeing while simultaneously expanding the FSU campus community. Let’s reconnect and renew in 2022. Onward!

Multifactor Authentication (MFA) and What It Means To You
We will introduce that audience to Multi-Factor Authentication(MFA) 1) What is MFA 2) How does it work 3) why it is important 4) how does will it make me safer? FSU is taking steps to improve security for email and file services, by requiring use of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). This security standard helps all users to prevent unauthorized access to email and data, and reduces dangers of phishing attacks. This change will be implemented Spring 2022. Come to this session to hear from IT what it is, how it will impact you and get in early group to try it out!

Resilience: Cultivating Joy and Awe
As we enter 2022 many of us are hoping for a little less uncertainty and a bit more resilience. There are countless ways to expand our resilience through mindful practice such as gratitude, breath work and meditation. Join Cally Ritter in a session which examines and celebrates the resilience practice of JOY and AWE. While we naturally experience these strong emotions when seeing a world wonder such as the Grand Canyon, we can also intentionally seek and find joy and awe in our everyday lives.  In this workshop we'll experience and recall moments of delight and wonder. Together we'll explore how to cultivate these positve enotions on a more regular basis and how to find joy and awe when we need them most.

Breathwork and Facial Massage
This session will also livestream in the Alumni Room

Facial Care for Mask Wear
Participants are led through a 20 minute step-by-step process to reduce tension in the face, head, neck and jaw caused by wearing a face mask. Increased circulation, and soothing sensation to the face can have an overall calming effect on the central nervous system, while increasing body awareness and bringing more attention to the present moment.
Breathwork to Reduce Overwhelm and Anxiety
Participants are guided through a series of mindful breathing techniques to specifically relax the body, slow down the mind, release stress and fear, reside in the present moment, increase attention and focus, and restore a sense of control and resiliency.
Once the 30 minute arc is complete, participants will feel both more relaxed and more alert. This is because breathwork has positive effects on the central nervous, circulatory, and pulmonary systems.

Cultivating Mindfulness in Everyday Life
Moved to Zoom
Click the link to join the session. Typing in the Meeting ID to join will prompt for a password, which is Framingham.

Mindfulness is the simple act of being aware. This is not always easy: we line in a culture that does not reward slowing down, watching a sunrise, taking a lunch break, or resting. Rather, our culture rewards bigger, better, faster, and more. When we chronically live in the fast lane, we can lose an essential intimate connection with ourselves and our colleagues and family members. This loss often results in depression, fatigue, disillu8sionment, and restlessness. This seminar will introduce you to mindfulness and invite you to experiment with various ways to cultivate it in your everyday life.

Seminal contributions by scientists, intellectuals, and thinkers living under Islamic dynasties from the eighth to the thirteenth century are largely not mentioned in Americas or Europe. That era is referred to as the Islamic Golden Age. The various achievements and discoveries of that time in several disciplines paved the way to the renaissance in Europe and have impacted various areas of our current knowledge and advancements. However, these achievements are mostly not credited or traced to the Islamic Golden Age prior to the renaissance. Join this session to hear about these contributions, see some of the images from those times, and taste some desserts from those times - made in our times!

This session has moved to Zoom. Click the link to join the session. Typing in the Meeting ID to join will prompt for a password, which is Framingham.

An educator's approach to the art and science of forgiveness. We know we should forgive, but it's often not that easy. Learn from an educator with "street cred" and supporting research to explain what forgiveness is really all about and why it should happen for personal and work place well-being. She asks what is the point of knowing about the subject, if you really don't know the why and especially the how of forgiveness. Five steps for a daily forgiveness ritual (that really does work) are presented along with supporting research as to why forgiveness is so important for all of us.
